no such thing a legit mystery shopping co. the MSPA or msra is an umbrella co that oversees all of them but that is a sham too. they get you to do the survey and then find a reason not to pay you (spelling, etc).
References :
Do not pay to register with any mystery shopper site. Legitimate companies do not charge you to apply.

Do a search for "mystery shopping company" and you will come up with lots of legitimate mystery shopping companies. Apply to many, because you will not get steady work from one company. Most shoppers work for several different companies.

There is more information on mystery shopping at:

You do not have to pay to mystery shop. They pay you but not much. I did it for few years a long time ago. Most of my jobs came from http://www.shopnchek.com/ (gas stations/fast food). The best paying jobs came from http://www.productpickup.com/ recruiting@productpickup.com 1-800-443-6127 not sure if that is still their contact info or not but for them I went to stores, bought Coke products, made reports for the date codes and then shipped the soda in for quality control testing. They also do Pepsi but a shopper can not do both Pepsi and coke. The most strange job I did was to buy m&Ms and count the colors. lol
References :
I've looked into a few, but have yet to find one that is "real". A real job doesn't charge you an initial fee. Good luck! I do sampling events for Mass Connections. It's internet based and they have auditors who go store to store making sure event personnel do their job properly, maybe you could get into something like that, they are based in CA, but have staff all over the country.
References :
Mystery shopping is not a full-time job. Companies will maybe assign you a mystery shop a few times a month and you will have to sign up with a few companies.

If you go to this website you will find lists of mystery shopping companies-http://virtualjobconnection.phpbb3now.com/viewforum.php?f=10&sid=c2b351d1d12cdfc1e4015bf8579b60c1
References :
Go to http://www.volition.com/mystery.html and there's a huge list of REAL mystery shopping companies. The rule of thumb I've found is NEVER pay a company to be a mystery shopper. The ones that ask for money are either scams or just aren't worth the money you'd pay them...

below are some of my favorite companies' links. ... Good luck

I don't have any experience with registering to be a mystery shopper but one place to look for requests for mystery shoppers is Craig's List. There is a Craig's List for almost every major city (including internationally) and if you search on "shopper" or "mystery" in the Jobs section, you'll likely find companies who are looking for people to be mystery shoppers.

Important: Craig's List is totally free!!!!!!
References :
Here is a link to the parent site. Just choose your city.
